A single act of kindness can travel further than we ever imagine - even across generations.

Heabidae – Kindness Inherited begins with a quiet question about a name and a possible connection between Hanuabada and Kairuku. The answer was found in a Motuan account written by Gavera Baru on 13 January 1964 - more than sixty years before the question was asked.

The story follows Aisi-Ori, a man from Rapa in Kairuku, who travelled to Hanuabada with his son to sell bananas, betelnut, mustard and coconuts. Hungry and far from home, they were noticed by Miria-Ikupu Rahobada and his wife, Geua-Oda.

Instead of seeing them merely as traders, the couple saw two people in need.

They welcomed them into their home.

They fed them.

They cared for them.

That simple act of heabidae - receiving someone into your home and showing hospitality, became the beginning of a friendship that endured until death and continued through their children, grandchildren and later generations.

Through personal memory, preserved Motuan writings and reflections on Hanuabada, Waima, Rapa and Kairuku, Mea Podi Vai reveals how kindness can become an inheritance more valuable than land, wealth or titles.
